Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has said lifting economic sanctions from Iran is a good omen and this move will lead to restoration of bilateral economic and trade ties.
“Pakistan attaches too much importance to its historical relations with Iran. We consider Iran our close friend and neighbour. Lifting of global economic sanctions from Iran is a good omen. We are pursuing regional connectivity agenda for development of trade cooperation. All the countries of the region will benefit from regional cooperation vision”, said the PM during his meeting with Iranian ambassador Mehdi Hoonardost on Monday.
PM Nawaz Sharif said we are looking forward to Iranian President Hassan Rouhani visit to Pakistan in the current week. He hoped the Iranian president’s visit will open new avenues of cooperation. Bilateral relations and cooperation will be reviewed in details. Reining over energy shortfall is our first priority for economic uplift. Vision of economic growth and national development is directly linked to regional stability. We want to benefit from all the opportunities of economic and trade activities in the region. Vision of regional cooperation will be beneficial to all the countries of the region.
Mehdi Hoonardost said that the trade volume between Pakistan and Iran is far less, “We want to achieve the target of enhancing the trade volume to 5 billion dollars”.
He further said that Pakistan role in easing tension between Saudi Arabia and Iran is vital.
