President of Pakistan People’s Party Parliamentarian (PPPP) and former president Asif Ali Zardari has expressed profound grief over the loss of more than two dozen precious lives and injuries to dozens of others in torrential rains-related incidents in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) and Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK).

In a statement issued on Sunday, Zardari called for stepping up rescue and relief operation by all state agencies concerned and also directed the party to set up emergency camps to provide relief to the affected people particularly women, children and the elderly.

He also called upon senior PPP leaders to visit the affected areas and commiserate with the victims in this hour of distress.

Zardari also offered condolences to the bereaved families over the death of their near and dear ones and suffering material losses. He also prayed for early recovery of the injured.

He also called for a national strategy to warn and evacuate people in affected areas and to mitigate the effects of natural disasters.

The PPPP President said, “As a nation we must devise a strategy for mitigating the effects of natural disasters that are likely to increase both in intensity and frequency due to climate change and global warming.”
