As many as 15 officers and subordinate staff members of Punjab Excise and Taxation Department (PETD) were facing disciplinary action on charges of corruption and fraud.
According to statistics for the period from January 2015 to February 2016 released by PETD, seven officers of the department have been sacked and six employees ranging from junior clerks to assistant excise and taxation officers have been sent home on pre-mature retirement.
Proceedings have been initiated against six more employees including five Excise and Taxation Officers (ETOs) and a data entry operator, under government of Punjab’s Efficiency, discipline and Ehtesab Act-2006.
Annual increment of 24 employees including 15 inspectors and a junior official has been stopped while 26 PETD personnel have been transferred.
A director, an ETO and a lower grade employee have been suspended in Multan region for their alleged involvement in allotting trucks and motorcycles’ number plates against cancelled series.
