Minister for Information on Friday said former president Pervez Musharraf’s name was removed from the Exit Control List (ECL) in light of the verdict of the Supreme Court.
The apex court upheld the Sindh High Court’s (SHC) decision on ECL and there was no such example in history of the country, he told a private news channel.
The minister said the government could not stop the former president from proceeding abroad on basis of those cases which were being discussed, adding that registering a new case against Musharraf was the only way to stop him. He added that if the government registered a new case it would be considered as revenge or personal rivalry.
The minister said that Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) was criticising and fighting its case on the media rather than on any proper forum. “It was PPP which had given red-carpet guard of honour to Musharraf during its tenure while Sindh High Court’s decision was also announced during PPP’s regime,” he said.
