Linking peace in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa with peace in neighbouring Afghanistan, KP Chief Minister Pervez Khattak on Friday said that terrorism was an international issue and unified efforts were needed to confront it.
Addressing a condolence reference arranged to pay homage to the late trade leader Haji Haleem Jan Shaheed at Nishtarabad, Khattak said that the province has faced challenges of terrorism for the last couple of years.
“Instead of losing heart there is dire need to combat terrorism jointly,” he said, adding that armed forces of the country were committed to go to any extent to curb terrorism.
Khattak said that peace was essential in Afghanistan for bringing stability to the whole region. He said that the provincial government, on the demand of the traders’ community had asked the federal government for repatriation of FC troops to the province.
He further said that the Afghan ambassador had been categorically told to ensure registration of Afghan refugees in the province. “Repatriation of these people to Afghanistan in a dignified manner is necessary for the restoration of durable peace in the province,” he said.
The CM asked the traders community to contact the government before giving any call for strike or protest.
Malik Mehar Illahi, Shaukat Ali Khan, Mujeebur Rehman, Haji Asghar and Ihtesham Haleem, while speaking on the occasion, thanked the CM for withdrawal of notices issued to 2,200 shopkeepers, announcing Tamgha-e-Shujat for Haji Haleem Jan and naming Hepatitis hospital as Haji Haleem Jan hospital on the demand of the traders.
