Opposition parties in the National Assembly (NA) on Thursday demanded the government to give a detailed briefing on Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) privatization issue.
Opposition Leader Syed Khursheed Shah presided a meeting of representatives from Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM), Jamaat-e-Islami and Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid-e-Azam.
Talking to reporters after the meeting, Shah demanded the government take opposition parties in confidence on PIA issue.
“All parties in the parliament seek strengthening and betterment of state entities,” he said. “However, the government should inform them about its strategy with regard to the national flag carrier.”
He demanded the government give a detailed briefing to opposition parties on PIA issue and inform about the steps it intends to take, before the joint session of the parliament.
The opposition leader said that Finance Minister Ishaq Dar had contacted him on PIA bill and joint session of the parliament, adding that he had informed the minister about the opposition’s reservations and demands.
PTI leader Shah Mehmood Qureshi said the government had to face humiliation in the Senate for it did not take opposition in confidence on PIA bill.
“Although, Tehreek-i-Insaf is against privatization, yet we want to know government plans with regard to national flag carrier,” he added.
