Taking a jibe at the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) government, Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari Thursday said his party leadership stripped former military ruler Gen (r) Pervez Musharraf of his powers and what has PML-N done, “set him free?.”

“SMBB [Benazir Bhutto] deprived him from his real power: his uniform.AZ threw him out of Presidency. What did you do? Set him free?” he posted on Twitter soon after the press conference of Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar concluded in which he announced the  government’s decision of allowing Musharraf to travel abroad.

In a media statement issued earlier on Thursday, Bilawal said allowing ‘dictator’ Pervez Musharraf to leave the country was tantamount to shredding the law of the land to pieces.

He said there were a number of cases pending against Pervez Musharraf.

“He (Musharraf) is also nominated in the murder case of my mother Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto and despite repeated summons he chose not to appear before the court,” he added.

Musharraf’s treason case is also under trial and it is being said that the trial is in its final phase. “Even in this case Musharraf had been reluctant to appear before the court,” he added.

“If Musharraf is allowed to escape from the country, the pending cases will never come to their logical conclusion nor will the legal requirements be fulfilled,” Bilawal had warned.

  1. His Party in government gave full honours and protocal to the then departing president Pervaiz Musharraf. During five years of that government, even the thought of charging Musharaf never entered their mind. Under the circumstances, Bilwal is well advised to turn a new chapter by staying well away from hypocrisy and corruption, the two halmarks of his devious, characterless and highly tainted father. If his intention is to resussitate ailing and crippled PPP, he will have to tread the path of honesty and integrity.
