Pakistan Ulema Council (PUC) Chairman Hafiz Muhammad Tahir Mehmood Ashrafi, terming some sections of the Women Protection Act objectionable, said his council had prepared some recommendations for amendments to the law.

Talking to media, he said a meeting of renowned clerics and law experts would be called to discuss the issue adding that the final recommendations would be presented in the next meeting of the committee formed by the government to discuss reservations on the law.

He said the committee had expressed resentments on some sections of the bill and the government had agreed to address them.

Ashrafi was of the opinion that the law as a whole could not be declared unconstitutional and anti-Islam, adding that the act should not be politicized.

He urged all religious parties to present their reservations on the law in written form so that nation and the government could ascertain the loopholes and objections.
