The Estate Office has sought the Prime Minister Office’s help in vacating government houses under illegal occupation of retired employees.

According to a report, around 515 houses in Islamabad are still under illegal occupation of retired government employees despite repeated eviction notices issued to them by the Estate Office.

The Estate Office has no record of the allottees of at least 2,880 government houses out of the 14,829 government houses in Islamabad. This issue was taken up in a recent meeting of National Assembly Standing Committee on Housing and Works.

The report said that over 515 houses were still under the use of retired government officials while 949 allottees were not paying the rent.

Earlier, Federal Minister for Housing and Works Akram Durrani had briefed the committee that the Estate Office did not have enough powers to vacate illegal occupation of houses. According to the report, a four-member committee has been formed to probe the issue.
