The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) is yet to display the details of the declaration of assets of parliamentarians on its website.

A source in the ECP claimed that the Political Finance Wing, which had been set up to scrutinise declaration of assets of parliamentarians, has been rendered dysfunctional.

According to the source, details of assets in respect of members of national and provincial’s assemblies have been scanned, however, no directives have been received by Chief Election Commissioner Sardar Raza Khan to upload them on the ECP’s website for the information of the general public.

There was tremendous pressure from politicians on ECP Secretary Babar Yaqub Fateh Muhammad to not upload details of their assets on the website. Therefore, only a notification has been issued a few days back.

Former ECP secretary Ishtiaq Ahmad was also pressured by parliamentarians but he placed the details on the website.

Under Public Representation Act, the members of parliament have to file the details of their assets with ECP till September 30 every year.
