Assistant Minister for International Department of the Communist Party of China (IDCPC) Central Committee Li Jun on Wednesday said that China will not allow China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) to be a failure, adding that the project reflects the shared destiny of the people of Pakistan and China.

In an exclusive interview with Pakistan Today, the minister said China was ready to work with Pakistan to make the country an Asian tiger by effectively implementing the CPEC which would ultimately benefit the people of Pakistan and China.

The minister said bilateral cooperation and engagement between Pakistan and China will help achieve a wider consensus over the CPEC.

We need to evolve strategic composure to achieve the desired targets. We need to work together to identify and achieve the easy targets in the first phase and the hard ones in the final stage. This would help us complete the project soon, he added.

The minister also called for launch of extensive media drives to inform the people of the future prospects and economic development under the CPEC.

CPEC is the largest-scale investment and cooperation project that China has ever conducted overseas. Pakistan and China will become major beneficiaries of this win-win cooperation, and it would help improve the living standards of the masses in both countries, he added.

CPEC is a flagship project of the belt and road initiative and therefore it involves projects in energy, infrastructure, industrialisation and free economic zones. We believe that CPEC would also play a guiding role in bridging China with the South Asian countries. I hope that CPEC would help benefit the peoples of China and Pakistan immensely, the minister added.

China is ready to actively engage with Pakistan for timely completion of the early harvest projects and other economic and infrastructure projects of the CPEC.

He said China and Pakistan stood by each other despite the changes taking place on international, geographical and domestic fronts.

The Chinese minister said that his visit aimed at strengthening bilateral cooperation between the political parties of Pakistan and the CPC so the political parties could work together for securing the future of the people of Pakistan and China.

He said he also held a meeting with top scholars of the country at Institute of Strategic Studies (ISS).

He said that the Chinese government is working towards strengthening China’s economy and government’s five year plan covers the macro economy of China adding that Chinese economy would be innovative during the next five years and government would focus on scientific and technological projects.

Li said that the Chinese government would also evolve a balance in rural and urban population and urbanisation ratio would be kept at 60 per cent. Chinese government would also promote green life styles among public and development of modern trends, he added.

While commenting on the Afghan peace process, the minister said that China wants Pakistan to play a significant role in bringing peace to the war-torn Afghanistan. He said that China firmly supports Afghan-owned peace process and would extend full support to the quadrilateral cooperation group.

  2. CPEC offers great opportunity and scope for Pakistan and China to work together in removing poverty and furthering prosperity to their backward people. The major problem for Pakistan is the enemy within. The current rulers have shown no vision or a national plan that its people could be happy about. Chinese seem to be aware of this problem and are therefore trying to reach the people themselves which is another blessing for Pakistan
