In a rare offer, Federal Minister for Water and Power Khawaja Muhammad Asif assured the employees that WAPDA would not be privatised if they worked efficiently.

Addressing a ceremony on Tuesday, Khawaja Asif said the government was taking every possible step to overcome electricity crisis. He said the representatives had to stop power theft in the country and directed to take stern action against the culprits. The minister said if the employees worked with enthusiasm and honesty there would be no need of privatisation of the department. He said the incumbent authorities only wanted to provide relief to the nation, therefore, he requested to make WAPDA free of corruption.

Earlier, the WAPDA delegation met with Prime Minister (PM) Nawaz Sharif and withdrew their call for strike as PM took notice of the legitimate demands of the employees. The meeting was attended by Federal Minister for Water and Power Khawaja Asif, Federal Minister of State for Water and Power Chaudhry Abid Sher Ali and Chairman Privatisation Committee Muhammad Zubair. The PM ordered the concerned officials to examine the legitimate demands of WAPDA employees and present a detailed report on the subject.
