Information Minister Pervez Rashid has said that the Punjab government was trying sort out flaws in the Women Protection Act (WPA), 2016 and certain provisions contrary to Islam were being reviewed.
“We are reviewing anti-Islam provisions in the act and the Punjab government is trying to take guidance from religious scholars about flaws in the law. We are looking forward to the Ulema for their proposals. The Ulema should also unite against terrorism the way they have shown unity against the act,” he said while talking to the media on Wednesday.
While condemning terror incident in Peshawar, he said that no society could prosper without planning and development. “Backwardness, ignorance and poverty multiplied due to lack of planning and proper utilisation of time,” he said.
“The sacrifices rendered by Pakistan in war on terror are unprecedented. We want to give our children a peaceful Pakistan. The situation in Karachi has improved and it will further improve in the coming days,” he said while answering a question.
While talking about money laundering allegation against MQM chief Altaf Hussain and his connection with RAW, the information minister said that investigations into money laundering charges were under way and Sarfraz Merchant agreed to record his statement to the FIA.
He further said that a committee was working to take measures that would introduce Urdu as the official language.
