For reasons of expediency

The press is playing a very important role in keeping an eye on the powers that be, no minister can pass off wrong information without being questioned in an editorial, be it a matter of the budget, LNG import, local body elections or whatever.

But the press takes no notice if a minister of the Sindh cabinet says that Kalabagh dam will turn Sindh into a desert, or the KP chief minister says the whole of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa will sink if Kalabagh dam is built.

Either the editors agree with what is being said or they observe a discreet silence for reasons of expediency. Don’t they see that it is this kind of misinformation which is holding up all development in the country?

Is it so difficult for the media to get the correct information from the relevant irrigation departments in order to keep their readers well informed which is what a responsible media should be doing?
