At least five alleged terrorists of a banned outfit were killed in an exchange of fire with personnel of the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) late Monday night.
According to CTD sources, the action was taken on a tip-off about the presence of eight terrorists of the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban in a jungle near Bahawalpur By-pass. The terrorists hurled hand grenades at the CTD officials and also opened fire. As the raiding party returned the fire, five terrorists were killed while three of them managed to escape.
Sources said that the dead terrorists aged between 30 and 50 years and were planning to attack institutions of law-enforcement agencies.
Two hand grenades, Kalashnikovs and pistols were recovered from the dead terrorists. Their bodies were shifted to Victoria Hospital for autopsy.
