Customs clearing agents observed strike in Torkham on Tuesday.

The customs clearing agents boycotted clearing activities for four hours against allegedly unjustified closing of all entry points in commercial area of Torkham by the National Logistic Cell (NLC) on Tuesday.

The clearing agent community was of the view that the NLC, on pretext of security, suspended all entry points to the markets and commercial area in Torkham that barred them to go to the custom house for clearing activities.

Clearing Agents Association Torkham General Secretary Mujib-ur-Rehman said that the NLC under establishment of Torkham terminal plan erected concrete walls and set up wire fences around the shops, offices and markets in Torkham. The agents have to walk one to two kilometers to reach the custom office, located just opposite to their offices, he remarked. He said clearing activities were temporary halted for four hours to record their protest. A general body meeting of the association had been convened today to formulate future strategy, he added.
