Sindh Health Minister Jam Mehtab Hussain Dahar has said that there is a dire need of keeping an eye on ongoing development schemes in the Health Department and for this purpose a four-member committee has been formed under the secretary health.
The committee will ensure timely completion of schemes, transparent purchase of medicines and medical equipments so that public money may not go in waste.
The minister was presiding over a meeting of Public Sector Development Progress Wing at his office on Monday. He directed officers concerned to speed up development work and physically inspect schemes on a regular basis and health advisory meetings must be held.
The minister asked them to produce purchase records and gradually finish renovation work of the public hospitals to save both money and time.
The minister was informed in the meeting that 97 development schemes were going on in the Health Department while 22 new development schemes had been proposed for new financial year 2016-17.
Dahar approved proposed scheme for establishing medical college and a hospital at Hala.
He said the government was spending a huge amount on the health sector and he would not tolerate corruption. Accountability process was going on in the department as well, he added.
Secretary Health Dr Saeed Ahmed Mangnejo, Additional Director Shaista Mubarak, Mohsin Ali Shah and Dr Jabbar Memon also attended the meeting.
