Several leaders of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) have left the country amid growing confusion in the ranks following dissociation of prominent leaders from the party, a report in the local media said on Monday.

Former MQM leaders Waeem Aftab, Anis Qaimkhani, Dr Sagheer Ahmed and Raza Haroon joined Mustafa Kamal following his announcement to launch a new political party.

MQM MPA Faisal Subzwari, whose name had been doing the rounds for being the next in line to join Kamal’s fold, left the country for the US early Monday morning.

However, MQM’s spokesperson Aminul Haque told a private news outfit that Subzwari had informed the party before leaving for a month.

Similarly, senior figure Haider Abbas Rizvi is in Canada, whereas MPA Irtiza Farooqui is residing in London for his son’s treatment.

Another party leader, Khushbakht Shujaat, who is also being tipped off as a potential-next to join Kamal’s party, is said to be on an official UN trip to the US.

While the MQM confirmed absence of these leaders, it also said they had taken official leave from the party.

Meanwhile, party’s Leader of Opposition in Sindh Assembly Khawaja Izharul Hassan has reportedly left the country for Dubai, the report said.

  1. An old proverb " Jo koi aasmaan ki taraf munh kar ke thukta hai – wo uske munh par aa kar girta hai. Four have joined KM camp, and five have fled the country over-night. Aage aage dekhiye hota hai kya. Na Bhatta raha na Bhatta jama karne wale ! Those remaining are all 'toilet paper' according to Dr Saghir.

  2. One man rule has to end one day. It's good that it starts with MQM which is consists of urban and intellectual society and more over they are descendants of creation of Islamic Republic of Pakistan and if they ultimately mend themselves back to the ideology of Pakistan then the whole Pakistan shall welcome them most probably is going to join their movement. My own advice is that take following steps to make it mass movement.
    * forget new provinces instead stress upon decentralization and complete administrations independence at local uni level and that means that finances must be provided to the local units per capita every year without take into consideration who is running that local unit. Local units are backbone of the development provisions of basic necessities as employment, social welfare, education, residence, water and sewerage and transportation as well as communication, electricity and the Justice. There should be departments and the administration and the elected assembly that should decide how much each of departments should spend resources and also must have the empowered to introduce small type local taxes.
