New IGP vows zero-tolerance for improvement in police performance

The newly-appointed inspector general of police, Sindh, AD Khawaja, after assuming the charge of his office on Monday, said that he would work for improvement in performance of the Police Department and would not tolerate any negligence or carelessness in this respect.

Chairing a meeting at the Central Police Office in Karachi, the Sindh Police chief said, “It is the need of the hour that we ensure people-friendly environment at every level in order to bring an improvement in performance of the Police Department. Any negligence and carelessness will not be tolerated.”

The meeting was attended by DIG Establishment Muzaffar Sheikh, DIG T&T Imran Yaqoob Minhas, DIG Admin Karachi Dr Ghulam Sarwar Jamali, DIG Finance Sultan Khawaja, DIG Headquarters Zulfiqar Larik, DIG Training Iqbal Dara, AIGs Establishment, Welfare, Operations, Logistics, Estate and Management Sindh, and the IT director of the Sindh Police.

Addressing the meeting, the IGP said that professional responsibilities should be performed as per basic points of police rules and all required laws. He said that the administrative and financial affairs should be made better, besides ensuring transparency and impartiality in operations and investigations.

Khawaja directed the DIG Establishment to resolve all affairs involving under-process promotions as per rules and regulations with immediate effect. He also instructed him to conduct hearing of different types of appeals filed by employees once a week, and decide them during office timings.

The IGP said that compensation amount should be paid immediately to those policemen who were martyred or died natural death in the line of duty. “Steps should be taken in such a way that families of the victim should not have to visit offices repeatedly. All affairs in this respect should be simplified,” he added.

The meeting however decided that those employees sacked for their involvement in criminal cases and crimes should not be restored.

Meanwhile, the Sindh Police spokesperson contradicted the reports about massive transfers in the department, saying that there was no such plan under consideration. He however clarified that transfers and postings could be made as per rules and regulations when required.
