The Sindh High Court (SHC) Monday directed the police to register a First Information Report (FIR) against unknown Rangers personnel in a case related to a missing Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) worker.
The petitioner, Nighat Waseem, maintains that her husband, Waseem, was picked up by Rangers personnel on September 1, 2015 and is missing since then as no arrest was shown.
A two-member bench of the court while ordering the registration of a case against unknown Rangers personnel adjourned the next hearing of the case until April 4.
Apart from Rangers, the court has also sought a formal reply from Sindh government.
Waseem belonged to the Peer Ilahi Bukhsh (PIB) Colony sector of MQM.
The same court also issued notices to Rangers on a petition, seeking whereabouts of another MQM worker, Kashif alias David.
Kashif’s wife, Raheela had claimed in her petition, that her husband was arrested in Dubai and brought to Pakistan in 2005.
She maintained that Rangers spokesman on February 8, 2016, disclosed Kashif’s arrest before the media but her husband was neither produced in court nor has been allowed to meet the family.
The bench directed the Rangers to submit their reply on the next date of hearing which was adjourned until April 18.
MQM, which enjoys political and street power in Karachi, had been accusing Rangers and other law enforcement agencies of illegally arresting and killing party workers since the start of Karachi operation back in September 2014.
