Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Sindh Director Shahid Hayat on Sunday met former mayor of Karachi, Mustafa Kamal and Dr Sagheer Ahmed as part of agency’s inquiry into allegations that the MQM had ties with the Indian spy agency.

Mustafa Kamal had accused his former party’s top leadership of having links with India’s Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) in a press conference where he formally announced to part ways with the MQM along with another senior leader Anees Qaimkhani.

Days later, Dr Sagheer Ahmed and Member of Sindh Assembly Iftikhar Alam also announced to join hands with Mustafa Kamal and Qaimkhani to form another party whose name is yet to be decided.

The MQM dissidents endorsed the allegations of Sarfaraz Merchant, a suspect in money laundering case, who had said that MQM Chief Altaf Hussain and others received money from RAW.

Merchant is likely to come up with a response to FIA’s request of cooperation on Monday after holding consultation with his legal advisors.

  1. It is a like beating around the bush. The authorities already have enough proof. Couple of months ago, Rao Anwar, an SSP of Karachi Police had mentioned of those proofs for which Altaf Hussain had called him Bhangi. Now even if Sarfaraz Merchant, a British citizen, has come-up with fresh evidence, the authorites should act without loosing time. Dozens of detained MQM workers have admitted during investigation of having attended training camps in India.
