Speakers at a seminar urged the government, semi-government and civil society organizations to initiate collective efforts for curbing violence against women in the society.
The speakers thought that there is a need to bring change in the behavior for countering the menace of violence against women which can only be done as a collaborative approach adopted by all stakeholders at a large scale to get the best results in least possible time.
They expressed these remarks at the seminar celebrating the “International Women Day-Planet 50-50 by 2030: Step it up for Gender Equality” organized by SACH- Struggle for Change, an NGO.
The moot was organized in connection with International Women Day aimed to create awareness on gender equality.
Women rights activist, Mastura Astanakzai sharing her remarks highlighted the role of women in Islam, “our religion has given a number of legal and social rights to women.”
She stated that now women are showing remarkable performance in various fields but it is imperative that a conducive environment is ensured for them to present their abilities and without any discrimination.
Child Psychologist Saima Shakir informed the participants that the upbringing of children plays a huge role in gender discrimination especially if with the cooperation of all family members.
She said children hailing from broken families develop a number of complexities and if they are not addressed at early age, they may have disastrous effects on their personalities.
Students of different schools were also asked to share their views on the role of gender equality to create awareness and respond their queries and confusions regarding role of men and women in the society, especially in their families.
Representatives of different civil society organizations, women rights activist, child psychologists and a number of Afghan students participated in the event.
