Tina Fey working on ‘Mean Girls’ musical

In an interview with Andy Cohen on Watch What Happens Live, Tina Fey revealed that her and her husband, composer Jeff Richmond, are working on a musical based on American teen comedy film, Mean Girls.
Fey, who was responsible for writing the screenplay and had also acted in the movie as one of the high school teachers, Ms Sharon Norbury, told Cohen that while the plot is still in the works, it’s “pretty close” to the story of the 2004 cult classic.
Although we would love to see Fey take the stage on Broadway, she revealed that she won’t be reprising her role as Ms Sharon in the muscial. “No, I would get a professional Broadway person.”
The plot, though not completed yet, will be close to the original movie. “We haven’t finished it yet but it’s close. Yes, pretty close.”
The music surprisingly, is going to be more “classic Broadway,” instead of Bring it On.
When can we expect to watch the musical? Sadly, not any time soon. When asked about the premiere date, Fey laughs, “2027. Whenever Hamilton closes. I’m gonna wait it out.”
Fey explained that one of the biggest challenges of writing the musical is figuring out when Act one would end. “The 11 o’clock number maybe is like the girl fight. I don’t know. We don’t know yet.”
Will Rachel McAdams come back as Regina George? Will there be a Rachel McAdams and Lindsay Lohan showdown? Unfortunately, no. Turns out, Fey is looking for a completely new cast, so we’ll have to wait and see who can fill in their sassy boots.
While we wait for what Gretchen would hope to be the musical revival of “That’s so Fetch!,” here are some of the best moments from Mean Girls.
