That the currently beleaguered Altaf Hussein likes to play the sex-ed teacher is a fact not lost out on many. His recent video explaining the birds-and-the-bees to a captive audience did go viral, after all. It was made fun of. It was defended. That was made fun of again. Much like any speech of his.
Just recently, another video has surfaced, where the topic is the same. Judging from some screen-grabs, it would appear that the event is the same as well. Online viewers can click on the video below and, I would like to caution, this stuff is not for children.
But the devoted followers of the party leadership won’t be dissuaded by anything that the fellow throws their way. As can be seen by the girls singing their songs for him this last Valentine’s Day.
And with that, I would like to segue to a pet favourite point of mine. The ban on the broadcast of the party leader’s speech by the Lahore High Court, as was mentioned by the Valentine Lady of the video above, is patently unfair.
The principle of the matter alone should be enough for rights groups to file an appeal in the supreme court.
The state as a whole has had a rather strange policy towards the MQM. The party, though never quite a part of the establishment, could always be relied upon by the latter to help it out. At any given time. The leader himself has been calling for “patriotic” generals within the army to impose military rule in the country – though this open call to treason wasn’t the reason of the current ban.
The state has empowered the MQM over the years. It gave it a shot in the arm when it had been nigh eliminated. It has turned a blind eye to its excesses and has ensured, in the past, that political governments are also not able to do much about it. However, when it decides to part ways, it cracks down on it in a manner that actually engenders support for it. The court-ordered ban is another example of the same.
