IG Sindh Jamali sacked; AD Khawaja appointed new police chief

Inspector General Police (IGP) Sindh Ghulam Haider Jamali has been sacked after the Supreme Court (SC) on Friday ordered the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) to probe the alleged corruption in Sindh Police.

AIG AD Khawaja has been nominated new provincial police chief and the federal government has appointed him with the consultation of Sindh government.

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has signed the summery of appointment of Khawaja as IGP Sindh.

The development came a day after the Supreme Court (SC) on Friday ordered the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) to probe the alleged corruption in Sindh Police and sought a report in this regard within four weeks.

The apex court also asked whether or not it is appropriate that Sindh Inspector General of Police (IGP) continues to hold office.

The apex court ordered proceedings against the Sindh IGP Ghulam Haider Jamali, former additional IGP Fida Hussain and other high ranking officers in cases pertaining to payment of the cost of investigation to investigation officers of the police and illegal appointments in the Sindh Police.

The direction came in the light of a report of three-member fact-finding committee headed by AIG AD Khawaja, constituted to inquire the allegation of corruption in illegal appointments in the police and a lack of transparency in allocation of the cost of investigation to investigation officers.
