An Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) on Thursday awarded collective 10-year imprisonment to two men involved in attacking a police party and demanding extortion.
The ATC judge found Yousuf Khan and Ashraf Khan guilty of demanding extortion of Rs 50,000 from the complainant. The judge pronounced the verdict after recording witnesses’ statements, evidences and arguments from both sides.
According to the prosecution, the convicts had demanded Rs 50,000 from the complainant Imran Iqbal as protection money within the limits of Site A police station. After some bargaining, both the parties were agreed on Rs 30,000 but meanwhile the matter was reported to police which came in action and arrested the convicts after an encounter when they reached to collect the extortion amount.
The law enforcers had seized weapon without license from the possession of convict Yousuf Khan.
According to the judgment, both the convicts were awarded seven-year imprisonment in extortion case and three-year term for attacking police party. Yousuf Khan also got seven-year imprisonment for carrying explosive substance by the ATC judge. However, according to the judgment, all the convictions would run simultaneously and their sentence would be counted from the day of their arrests. The court also imposed a fine of Rs 20,000 on the convicts who will have to undergo an additional six-month imprisonment if they fail to pay the fine amount.
