A possible pull out of the Pakistan cricket team from the ICC World T20 was averted after the Indian government on Friday issued a “public guarantee” of security to its players.

The breakthrough comes as Mamata Banerjee, chief minister of the Indian state of West Bengal, assured in writing foolproof security to Pakistan’s men and women cricket teams during their stay in India for the ICC World T20.

A Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) official confirmed to media to have received a copy of the public notice issued by the West Bengal state government.

“We have sent a copy of the notice to the interior ministry, seeking approval of the departure of Pakistan’s men and women cricket teams to India,” the board official said.

Rajnath Singh, Minister of Home Affairs of India, also said that “anybody coming to India will be provided security. There is no doubt about it”.

The ICC has already moved Pakistan’s group match against hosts India to Kolkata on March 19 due to security concerns in Dharamsala.
