An electrified Corvette is now the fastest road-legal electric vehicle in the world.

The car in question is called the GXE and it was made by the Genovation green car company. Although its thrown off its hydrocarbon-burning lineage to embrace an electrified future, it’s clearly no slouch. In fact, it did 186.8 mph on a Shuttle Landing Facility in Florida.

That speed is thanks to many factors. Of course the slick body lines of the 2006 Corvette Z06 helped. But the true root of the GXE’s success comes from its EV powertrain that produces 700 horsepower and 600 pound-feet of torque.

The GXE is far and away the fastest road-legal EV in the world, easily smashing the previous 177-mph record set by a Finnish prototype car.Impressively along with being able to exceed 180 mph, the GXE also boasts a range of 130 miles, which, outside Tesla and the Chevy Bolt is pretty good for an EV.If you Tesla fans are worried that Elon Musk’s achievements are becoming overshadowed by others, don’t worry too much. The Model X still holds the record for fastest production SUV — for an EV or otherwise.
