The Supreme Court (SC) on Wednesday ordered the Sindh government to speed up investigation into illegal recruitments and corruption in the police department.
A three-member bench comprising Justice Amir Hani Muslim and Justice Azmat Saeed headed by Chief Justice Anwar Zaheer Jamali heard the case.
During the hearing, Justice Amir Hani Muslim stated that the judges will announce the verdict in open court on Thursday (today) as they are waiting for the Sindh government’s reply in the case.
The justice remarked that SC has launched an enquiry against the local government’s steps and advised the IG to refrain from getting involved in the matter.
Justice Amir said that the court will ask from the authorities to answer why they issued notices to Deputy Inspectors General (DIG) Aftab Pathan and Sana Ullah Abbasi.
He lashed out at the IG saying “you have made a committee equivalent to court by dispatching notices to DIGs”. He said that it’s a serious matter as the Sindh administration has not taken any measure to stop increasing corruption.
Meanwhile, the Sindh chief secretary told the court that the department takes action against corrupt officials on a regular basis but the judge urged to suspend them all.
Subsequently, the hearing was adjourned till Thursday.
