Green Pakistan, clean Pakistan

Kudos to PM Nawaz Sharif for his approval to launch “Green Pakistan Programme” whereby over 100 million trees will be planted all across the country. It reminded me a statement of Franklin D Roosevelt who said that “A nation that destroys its soils destroys itself. Forests are the lungs of our land, purifying the air and giving fresh strength to our people.” Tree plantation is one such method of being productive on ground. Looking to the environmental situation, especially in big cities of Pakistan, a legal mechanism is urgently needed and it should be enforced for environment protection. Looking at the population growth trend of Pakistan, environmental issues are directly linked with the emission of greenhouse gases that pose great threat to economic stability. According to the report on the official website of WWF Global, Pakistan has set the Guinness World Record for tree planting: 541,176 young mangroves trees were planted by 300 volunteers from the local fishermen communities just in one day. The country broke the previous 447,874 record held by historical rival India. Pakistan deserves praise for this.
