NAB prepares reference against provincial minister, DG sports, ex-secretaries

The Nationality Accountability Bureau (NAB) has compiled a reference against a sitting Punjab minister, director general Sports and five ex federal secretaries.

A news agency said citing sources that NAB had recorded all the statements and had completed its investigation into the embezzlement in Punjab Youth Festival.

The NAB has recorded the statements of Provincial Minister Rana Mashood, Director General Sports Usman Anwer and others and also showed them all the documents and other evidence of corruption that they are accused of. NAB’s investigation officers have been working to move forward the inquiry in light of their statements. A video of Provincial Minister Rana Mashood in a bribery case has also been reviewed.

“A video has been received from PEMRA. It has been reviewed in order to determine its authenticity,” sources added.

Sources further said that Rana Mashood had written a letter to the NAB chairman complaining that legal prerequisites had not been fulfilled in his case. However, NAB assured him that it believes in the implementation of law and that no injustice would be done with those who are innocent but that the culprits will be brought to justice.

Sources added that the investigations against the provincial minister and DG sports would be taken to their ultimate end.

Moreover, NAB officials have given final shape to the corruption reference against four former federal secretaries. Former federal secretary Maula Baksh Awan is accused of making 746 illegal recruitments in PWD, while former secretary Works is accused of giving scholarship forms to fake candidates. Similarly, references against former secretaries Ismail Qureshi, Shahid Rafi and former secretary social welfare Naeem Khan have also been compiled.
