The Enforcement Branch of Estate Office has got vacated 172 government accommodations in the capital from illegal occupants under Accommodation Allocation Rules-2002.
As per details provided by Ministry of Housing and Works here, some trespassers have got stay orders which are being pursued by litigation branch of this office to get these vacated.
Estate Office is dealing with allotment/cancellation of government accommodation which are on their pool under the prescribed rules.
As far as encroachment is concerned, that Office has not received any complaint by allottees.
Moreover, the Ministry said whenever such kind of incident will be reported or brought in notice of Estate Office, then the case will be forwarded to Capital Development Authority and Pak PWD for being the custodian of the houses.
Similarly, at Karachi the field office of Estate Office Karachi comprises one Inspector and one Sub Inspector for 7,882 housing units in various Federal Government colonies.
Therefore, on receiving complaints against trespassing/subletting/misuse of government accommodations, that office takes action under the provisions of Accommodation Allocation Rules, 2002 and Central Government Land and Buildings (Recovery of Possession Ordinance), 1965.
The Ministry said more than 3000 accommodations are in occupation of retired Federal Government employees or their families who are retaining the same beyond eligible period on pretext of Government Policy to rehabilitate them. The matter has been taken up by the Standing, Committees of National Assembly and Senate on Housing and Works.
The Standing Committees of National Assembly on Housing and Works adopted and approved some recommendations of its sub-committee such as a fresh survey of Federal Colonies may be conducted to identify the retired/unauthorized occupants of the government accommodations.
For this purpose, it has been recommended that a meeting of all stakeholders including public representatives of areas be convened to discuss various aspects/proposals to settle the modalities prior to initiating the survey.
The other recommendation was that National Housing Authority may be given task to formulate a policy and to make viable proposals in respect of constructing new flats to rehabilitate the existing government officials.
