Ambassador of Germany to Pakistan Ina Lepel Saturday said Pak-German Renewable Energy Forum (REF) would be launched to help bring together and connect Pakistani-German actors from public and private sectors of Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency.
Speaking at the 5th International Exhibition and Conference on Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency, she said the German Development Cooperation had been engaged in renewable energy and energy efficiency since 1962, the very beginnings of Pakistan-German development cooperation.
“Our objective is to support sustainable electricity supply in Pakistan and to help improve the efficient use of energy,” she added.
The ambassador said that besides financial and technical cooperation in the sector, ranging from the construction of hydropower plants to support in the energy sector reform and policy, the goal was to leverage the potential for business in the area of renewable energy and energy efficiency, which existed in both countries.
She said that Pakistan has a large potential for sustainable economic and social development due to its geographical realities as a trade corridor, its agricultural and human resources and its potential as a competitive exporter of goods in high demand within the region and beyond.
The ambassador said Pakistan’s potential in terms of renewable energy was even bigger than that of Germany.
Pakistan has more wind corridors, more photovoltaic potential and also exceptional opportunities for hydropower, she said.
She said that there were ample possibilities to engage businesses, which would create employment and income and would contribute to Pakistan’s economic development.
Ina Lepel said that in addition to the private sector, development partners could also play a pivotal role, especially by providing expertise and specific technologies in order to provide a boost for the sector.
Alternative Energy Development Board Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Amjad Ali Awan said Pakistan’s Renewable Energy sector had tremendous response from international market and that mapping of solar and wind potential was in progress while bio-mass mapping had already been completed.
He said efforts were being made to enhance renewable energy’s share to 35 per cent of the energy mix in order to ensure energy security.
He said Pakistan has potential for producing over 40,000MW of electricity in Karachi-Keti Bandar Wind corridor alone.
The same areas were also gifted by solar energy, he added.
The CEO said ADEB has set a target to generate over 3000MW of electricity from renewable energy.
Air University Dean Dr Zafarullah Koreshi said there was a need to promote renewable energy in the country. Over 40,000-50,000MW of electricity could be generated from hydel resources, he added.
Renewable Alternative Energy Association of Pakistan (REAP) Vice Chairman Asif in his welcome note said that renewable energy was the only solution for overcoming electricity load shedding.
Earlier, the ambassador opened the exhibition in a ribbon cutting ceremony.
Later, Ina Lepel visited different stalls set up by various companies dealing in solar technologies.
There are more winds in the different sorts of places in the Pakistan which make this fourm possible to launch for providing the energy for the requirements of the people of the pakistan. The Pak-German togather workded hard to make this project successful. This is one of the most eco friendly project all over the world.
Thanks
Energy is a vital topic now a days to most of the countries in the world. Many countries took many effective measures to produce adequate energy for the development of their country. The classroom clipart will let them know how this pak-german community work for the production of more energy.
