At least nine people were killed and 24 sustained severe injuries in various traffic accidents across the country on Sunday.
A trailer-passenger coach collision in Lakki Marwat claimed the lives of at least five people and wounded eight others.
In Islamabad’s area Malpur, Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Fiaz was severely injured whereas, his car was damaged completely when a dumper ran over the vehicle after getting out of control.
Rescue teams shifted him to Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) while the driver managed to escape from the accident scene.
Meanwhile, a woman and his son died and 15 got hurt when a bus toppled on the National Highway in Nowshehro Feroz.
The bus en route to Karachi forms Sargodha turned turtle near Shah Jamal petrol pump due to over-speeding.
On getting information of the incident, motorway police and locals reached the place and evacuated the dead bodies and injured from the bus.
The wounded were shifted to Karachi after receiving medical aid from a local hospital.
On the other hand, a passerby lost his life when a dumper filled with gravel lost control and ran over him in Karachi’s Hub Rewar road in Baldia Town.
Pakistan has one of the world’s worst records for fatal traffic accidents, blamed on poor roads, badly maintained vehicles and reckless driving.
Over 9,000 road accidents are reported to the police every year, killing on average around 5,000 people, according to the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics.
