Islamabad – Our Self-indulging Correspondent: Speaking at a press conference after Pakistani filmmaker Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy won her second Oscar award, Imran Khan, leader of the Pakistani Tehreek-e-Insaf, said that though her work is commendable, she should also show the world the positive side of Pakistan.
“There isn’t just this business of acid attacks in the country or honour-killing,” he said. “There are also a lot of positives in the country, like a captain who led the nation to its first and till yet only ODI World Cup win.”
“She could also point out a cancer hospital, and dashing good looks of the captain that I have mentioned previously,” he said.
“Instead of highlighting the patriarchy prevalent in the country, she could make a film on a fellow who has been on the cover of Hello!, not just once or twice, but three times!”
“And this is the real Hello! I am talking about, not the Pakistani franchise.”
“Instead of making films about indoctrinated poor youth in the tribal areas, she could have made a film on the enlightened rich youth of the urban areas, many of whom refused to pay their toll-tax on the motorway upon the call of a charismatic leader who had asked them not to pay any form of tax till the government resigns.”
“Why be so negative,” he asked.
