Longer time in shower damages skin

COURTESY THE MIRROR

We all like a few extra minutes in bed, but by trying to save time we might be doing ourselves some damage.

Your alarm goes off, you press snooze, and it goes off again. Beaten, you get up and jump in the shower and try to face the day.

What you do next however is important – and could be doing damage to the delicate skin on your face by stripping away our natural oils.

If you wash your face in the shower because a) why not and b) you save yourself a couple of minutes by multi-tasking, then you’ve probably not given it a second thought.

Rather than washing our faces with water at a temperature better suited to cutlery and crockery, beauty expert Amadine Isnard says the best thing is to use either lukewarm or cold water.

Whether you do this over the sink or in the shower at a different temperature setting is up to you, but she told the Gloss using the sink allows you to “gauge the temperature more effectively” – plus who likes a cold shower first thing anyway?

While it’s a myth that cold water closes or minimises pores (sorry), an invigorating blast of cold water does our skin the world of good.

Amadine continues: “A cold finish stimulates circulation and can be hugely beneficial to the overall glow of your skin.”

So take a couple of minutes extra out of your morning and save the scalding water for your dirty dishes.
