The Supreme Court on Thursday stayed the Federal Services Tribunal (FST) verdict regarding seniority issues of Motorway Police officers.

The two-member bench comprising Justice Mushir Alam and Justice Manzoor Malik heard the case filed by police officers who joined the National Highway and Motorway Police (NH&MP) on deputation, seeking a stay against the FST verdict.

During the course of proceedings, Hafiz SA Rehman, counsel for the directly inducted employees of NH&MP, told the court that the department recruited 200 people after test and interview while some police sub-inspectors had joined the department on deputation as Inspectors. The NH&MP administration promoted the policemen while ignoring the directly appointed employees, he added.

He said that the employees had filed a petition in the Lahore High Court but the court had referred the matter to SC. The apex court directed the employees to contact the FST, which was the appropriate forum, he added.

“The FST in its judgment stated that seniority was the right of the directly inducted employees and directed the NH&MP to promote these officers,” Rehman stated.
