An accountability court on Thursday reserved its judgment till March 17 on declaring National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Chairman Chaudhry Qamar Zaman as an accused in the NICL scandal.
According to details, the accused in NICL scandal Amin Qasim Dada, Zahoor Ahmad and others have filed a petition before Accountability Judge Munawwar Sultana to make Chaudhry Qamar Zaman an accused in the case.
Nisar Tarrar, the lawyer of the accused, submitted that the case was made against his clients for purchasing a piece of land in the Korangi Industrial Area, which was duly approved by the NICL Board of Directors. He said that Chaudhry Qamar Zaman was a member of that board therefore he should also be investigated in the case.
Responding to Tarrar’s arguments, NAB Deputy Prosecutor General Syed Amjad Shah said that an accountability court could not declare the NAB chairman as accused as the reference against the accused was endorsed by the NAB chief.
After hearing arguments from both sides, the judge reserved the judgment till March 17 and also ordered former NICL chairman Ayaz Khan Niazi to submit his passport before the court for remaining absent from the hearings repeatedly.
