Leaders of Sindhi nationalist and political parties have rejected the decision of Council of Common Interest (CCI) for delaying census and announced to continue their struggle for early holding of census.

An emergency meeting of political and nationalist parties of Sindh was held at Hyder Manzil on Wednesday with Jalal Mehmood Shah in the chair to discuss the issue of population census.

Mahtab Akbar Rashdi from Pakistan Muslim League-Functional, Dr Niaz Kalani from Jeay Sindh Qaumi Mahaz, Rashid Mahmood Soomro from Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam, Haji Shafi Jamoot from Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz and other leaders attended the meeting.

Later, briefing the media, Jalal Mehmood Shah said the PPP failed to represent the views of Sindh in the CCI meeting. “We reject the decision to postpone census. It is a mean to deprive Sindh of its due share of resources.”

He alleged that Mian Nawaz Sharif had now become prime minister of Punjab but he was ignoring Sindh. He also criticised the role of Sindh Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah in the CCI meeting and said that Sindh government had completely failed to represent the views of Sindh and it was trying to befool the people of the province in Sindh Assembly. Shah demanded that schedule of census should be announced as soon as possible. He said a committee of four members headed by Mahtab Akbar Rashdi would soon meet with the CM in this connection. They will also meet with chairman Senate and appeal him for fighting the case of Sindh in the Senate.
