Bollywood heartthrob Shahrukh Khan’s upcoming movie ‘Fan’, has become the talk of the B-town, as the release of the trailer not only increased the hyped of the movie, but also reveals the dark side of a fan, Gaurav.Going by the title and theme of the film, Shah Rukh’s fans gathered at Yash Raj Studios to launch the trailer with him.
Fan revolves around a young boy, Gaurav, from Delhi, who sets out on a journey to the city of dreams, Mumbai, just so he can wish his favourite star, Shahrukh Khan (SRK) on his birthday. After all, he is Aryan’s biggest fan and even has a striking resemblance to him – how difficult could it be for the world’s biggest fan to get an audience with the world’s biggest star?
However, when things don’t go according to plan, Gaurav’s love and passion for his idol turns into a dangerous obsession.
This obviously drew comparisons to Shah Rukh’s earlier films like Darrwhere he played an obsessive lover and Baazigar, where he played a conspiring revenge-driven youngster. However, SRK claims it bears no resemblance to his ‘psycho’ characters in previous films.
“People keep saying that I do the same acting for the past 25 years… even critics say that, but I have tried that this is different. And Maneesh was very clear about the way this character is played, and I would not take any credit for having done it any differently when people find it different,” said SRK.
After the release of the teaser and anthem track Jabra, Fan gave the impression of a “sweet and simple” kind of film, however, the trailer serves as a big surprise.
King Khan further added clarification to his character, stating that the character is “not psychotic, he’s not a psychopath.”
He adds that, “It’s about innocence, it’s about when you’re young, you have stars in your eyes, you feel that every thing or person that you love will love you that much in return, but when sometimes things don’t happen the way you think, you get a bit disturbed.”
Considering Shah Rukh’s ‘king of romance’ tag, it is surprising that no lady love is seen in the trailer. On this, he quipped: “As a matter of fact, it is not that I didn’t get anyone so I’m running behind myself. It’s safer when you love yourself, the fear of rejection is lesser.”
The movie is directed by Maneesh Sharma and produced by Aditya Chopra. The film is set to release on April 15.
