National Highway Authority (NHA) Chairman Shahid Ashraf Tarar said on Tuesday that the authority had been striving to complete its ongoing road projects in time and during past five year it had completed 29 projects.
In an interview with APP, the NHA chairman said that some of the NHA projects get delayed than their prescribed time and the issue needed to be taken in true context.
“Many factors contribute to such delays including shortage of funds, relocation of utilities and land acquisition etc.” He said unfortunately the NHA was held responsible for the delays which was unjustified as it was striving hard to cut down these delays to minimum.
Giving details of the ongoing development projects of NHA, he said that Burhan-Havelian section of Hazara Motorway was being built in three packages and construction work on the first two packages was in full swing. Letter of acceptance has been issued to the contractor for construction of Package III.
The NHA chairman said that work on the first two packages would be completed by March next year while the third will be completed by the end of next year and the 60 km motorway section would become operational.
He said 120 km Thakot-Havelain section of the Karakoram Highway (KKH) would be executed under the umbrella of CPEC. It was planned to be operational by 2019, he said.
About 387 km Multan-Sukker section of Karachi-Lahore Motorway, he said that the project would be executed under the umbrella of CPEC. About Burhan-DI Khan expressway, he said that Rs 10,000 million have been allocated for the project in the PSDP 2015-16 and it is planned to be operational by 2019. He said the project alignment starts at Brahma-Batar interchange on M-1 and passes through Fateh Jhang, Mianwali, Kundal and ends at Yarak at Indus Highway (N-55).
Tarar said that rehabilitation of DI Khan-Mughalkot section of N-50 would be completed by 2018. Moreover, he said that dualisation of 531 km DI Khan to Kuchlak section of N-50 would be operational by 2020. He said presently its feasibility study and design was under process.
