Sharmila Tagore in Lahore

Kudos for an eye-catching article on “Life and Adventures of Sharmila Tagore” by Annam Lodhi (Pakistan Today, 21 February, 2016). It is nice that to facilitate cultural exchange between Pakistanis and Indians, the organisers invited a large contingent of Indian speakers to interact with audience in Lahore, a city renowned for its patronage of the arts. Sharmila Tagore is a name that created a wave in the Indian film industry from the 1960s to the 1980s and still continues to do so. Veteran actress Sharmila Tagore has rightly expressed her delight at being in Lahore, saying she has found so much in common between India and Pakistan. Apart from acting, she has been, and remains, actively involved in social work both in India and abroad. She is a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador for HIV/AIDS, works for the visually challenged at the Venu Eye Institute, and is a board member of the PSB Trust. Sharmila is yet in the pre-autumn of her life as she still wows her audience with her presence and beauty. Her role in ‘Kashmir Ki Kali” has no match for her beauty in Bollywood.
