The Senate Standing Committee on Cabinet rejected the bill converting Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) into a limited company.
The senate body said the draft bill ‘PIA Corporation Bill-2016’ was presented before the committee in haste and it could not be approved unless it is thoroughly debated by the committee members.
Secretary Aviation Division Irfan Elahi gave a detailed briefing to the committee.
Senator Saleem H. Mandviwala of Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) said that the PIA bill had been passed by the National Assembly last month amid walkout by the opposition members and that it had not been sent to the NA’s Standing Committee on Cabinet Secretariat.
“Such actions of the government are a serious question mark on it. Therefore the bill cannot be approved,” he said.
