Unidentified gunmen shot dead a local office bearer of Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), Abdul Rasheed, in Karachi on Monday evening.
According to Landhi SP Afnan Amin, the armed riders attacked Abdul Rasheed near his residence in Korangi area of the city, killing him on the spot.
“A 15 year old passerby girl was also injured as assailants resorted to aerial firing while fleeing the scene, however, her condition is out of danger,” said Amin.
The police officer added that police has launched a probe into the attack. PPP Karachi leader, Najmi Alam, however termed it a case of ‘targeted killing’.
The dead and wounded were shifted to Jinnah Post-Graduate Medical Centre.
The head of emergency department at JPMC, Dr. Seemin Jamali, said that the girl sustained bullet wounds on her hand and is stable.
Law enforcement agencies have been actively seeking to rid Karachi of terrorism and violence through operations in the city’s troubled areas for well over a year now.
Both police and Rangers have raided plenty of areas and have arrested thousands of suspects and criminals to ensure peace in the city, which has been hit by a wave of law and order problems.
