Ministerial level Pak-US strategic dialogue, 6th round to be held today

The sixth round of Pakistan-US ministerial level strategic dialogue will be held in Washington today (Monday).

Pakistani delegation will be led by Advisor on Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz while US State Secretary John Kerry will lead the US delegation.

As per details, Pak-US strategic dialogue includes cooperation in economic, finance, energy, education, technology, science, law enforcement, security, strategic stability, counterterrorism, non proliferation and defence.

Led by Sartaj Aziz, the four-member Pakistani delegation reached Washington on Sunday. Other members of the delegation are Minister for Planning, Development and Reform Ahsan Iqbal, Minister of State for Water and Power Abid Sher Ali and Interior Secretary Arif Khan.

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s visit to the United States in October last year had given impetus to the dialogue process.

Meanwhile, Federal Minister for Planning and Reforms Ahsan Iqbal while speaking at the Centre for Strategic and International Studies has said that the dialogue will provide an opportunity to take steps by the two countries that will shape the future. He said the purpose of the talks was to extend bolster ties between the two countries. Iqbal also reiterated that Pakistan was trying to bring peace in the region for which it was working with the US.
