1 million saplings planted under special drive: minister

Provincial Minister for Forests, Wildlife and Fisheries, Malik Muhammad Asif Awan has said that about 1 million saplings have so far been planted under Spring Tree Plantation Campaign. He directed Divisional Forest Officers to further accelerate the campaign and achieve the target of plantation of 12 million plants within the stipulated period.

He was addressing a function in connection with Spring Tree Plantation Campaign. The minister said that there are more than 18 million plants at 212 nurseries and sale points set up by Forests Department. He said that during the ongoing tree plantation campaign, 4.25 million plants will be planted in government forests, one million plants in other government departments, 1.3 million plants through defence institutions and 5.45 million plants on private lands.

Awan further stated that during Spring Tree Plantation Campaign, two plantation fares will be arranged at Punjab University besides six seminars in colleges and universities as well as six plantation walks. He said that Farmers’ Day will also be celebrated during the campaign for providing information to farmers about latest methods of tree plantation. He said that speech contests will also be arranged in schools and prizes will be awarded to the students.

The minister further stated that mobile publicity van has also been prepared with regard to the Spring Tree Plantation Campaign which will visit different villages and streets for highlighting importance of tree plantation and provision of plants free of charge. This campaign will be started from Judicial Colony Phase I Thokar Niaz Baig.
