New air-conditioned buses to hit Peshawar roads

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Pervez Khattak has ordered operationalistion of one hundred latest air conditioned buses from Chamkani to Hayatabad to provide efficient and comfortable transportation services to the citizens of Peshawar City.

He issued there directives while presiding over a high level meeting convened to discuss Peshawar Mass Transit Project at the Chief Minister’s Secretariat.

The meeting was attended by Special Assistant to CM for Transport Shah Muhammad Wazir, MPAs Shaukat Yousafzai, Javed Nasim, District Nazim Arbab Asim, and chief secretary, representatives of Asian development Bank and high ups of various departments.

Secretary Transport while briefing the meeting about introduction of hundred latest air conditioned buses in Peshawar informed that the buses would be run at corridor-2 starting from Chamkani and ending at Karkhano Market at Hayatabad.

Similarly he said that the latest bus service would also be introduced at Ring Road and Hayatabad Township. The CM ordered the concerned authorities to make the project beneficial for the citizens by all definitions. He directed to introduce hundred buses in the first phase and increase the number with the passage of time.

The concerned authorities were also ordered to float expression of interest to search a suitable firm for the implementation of the project.

Similarly secretary transport while highlighting silent features of the Bus Rapid Transport project in Peshawar informed that free feasibility of the project was already completed while feasibility study initiated in January this year would complete till the month of August. He explained that detail engineering designing of the project to be initiated in July this year would complete in November.

He informed the meeting that construction work of the corridor-2 from Chamkani to Hayatabad to be initiated in January next year would complete till December 2017. He told the meeting that Corridor-2 project would cost Rs.20 billion which would be provided by Asian Development Bank as loan to the provincial government.

The CM on this occasion asked the concerned authorities to expedite process of approval of the project from CDWP and ECNEC.
