The National Commission for Human Development (NCHR) would help curb extremism and terrorism in Pakistan.
A high level delegation from US Department of State, headed by Carmela A. Conray, office of South and Central Asia Affairs in a meeting with Chairperson National Commission for Human Rights (NCHR) lauded role of NCHR for protecting human rights for masses.
Conray was pleased to see the extensive mandate of the commission given by the statue and was hopeful that once implemented it will bring about a good change in Pakistan, said a news release issued here.
She felicitated Justice (Rets) Ali Nawaz Chowhan on being the first chairperson of the commission and praised the government on the establishment of NCHR for the promotion and protection of human rights.
The chairman NCHR expressed his gratitude to the delegation and stated that this institution will work for the promotion and protection of fundamental rights of vulnerable segment of the society in Pakistan.
The chairman explained various priorities of the commission in accordance with proposed strategic plan and discussed various functions of the commission particularly hearing of petitions and actions on suo-moto notices.
Jaessica Pfleiderer, Political Officer of US Embassy, Members NCHR, Chaudhry Muhammad Shafique and Fazila Aliani, were also present during the meeting.
