US Secretary of State John Kerry defended the Obama administration’s proposed sale of F-16s on Friday.
Despite growing criticism of the proposed sale, the Obama administration has insisted that the fighter jets are a ‘critical’ tool in Islamabad’s fight against terrorism.
Criticism of the proposed sale came from international quarters when India expressed its displeasure. American congress also had plenty to say on the matter, with Senator John McCain among several others clamouring for a hearing on the matter.
“So it’s always complicated. We try to be sensitive to the balance, obviously, with respect to India. But we think the F-16s are an important part of Pakistan’s ability to do that,” Kerry said.
