Dar directs PBS to chalk out revised action plan for census

Finance Minister Senator Ishaq Dar directed the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) to chalk out a revised action plan for holding census and incorporating changes discussed in the previous meeting in consultation with other stakeholders.

The finance minister issued these directives while chairing a meeting to review arrangements for the planned housing and population census 2016 here Saturday.

PBS Chief Statistician Asif Bajwa gave the meeting an update on the arrangements undertaken so far by the Bureau and the level of preparedness of other related government bodies. Ishaq Dar also gave instructions that the updated plan be prepared by the evening of Sunday (February 28) so as to share it with the members of the Council of Common Interest for considering the same in its upcoming meeting. He said it was resolve and endeavour of the government to hold the census in a befitting manner while ensuring its credibility and transparency, and all efforts would be made to achieve this objective. Secretary Statistics Division Mr Shahid Hussain Asad, senior officials of the ministry of finance and the PBS attended the meeting.
